Episode Behind the Scenes

Daniel Riordan previously appeared on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" in the episodes "Coming Of Age" and "Progress", respectively.

J.G. Hertzler (Kolos) and John Vickery (Orak) previously appeared in the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episodes "The Changing Face of Evil", "When It Rains..." and "Tacking Into The Wind". They played General/Chancellor Martok and Gul Rusot respectively.

The tribunal takes place on the planet Narendra III. In the Star Trek: TNG episode "Yesterday's Enterprise", this planet was the site of a Klingon outpost destroyed by the Romulan (and, coincidentally, defended by another vessel named Enterprise).

Daniel Riordan's character being named Duras is a nod to The Next Generation, which first showed members of the Duras family.

The Tribunal Chamber set wasn't the only similarity between this episode and The Undiscovered Country. There were a number of parallels between the plots (sympathetic Klingon lawyer, fairly decent judge, mean prosecutor and audience, unfairly convicted, sentenced to Rura Penthe, escape) as well as things like the lighting and camera angles in the Tribunal Chamber, the set of Rura Penthe, and the props- specifically the spherical gavel. Altogether simply fantastic.
