Although the Defiant comes from the "real" universe, and the mirror crew read about their counterparts in the database, none of the characters cross from one reality into the other. This makes this episode (along with Part 2) the only Trek "mirror universe" episode taking place entirely in one reality.

   
The opening scene (before the credits) up to the point where Zefram Cochrane shoots the Vulcan is taken from the movie Star Trek: First Contact.
   
Although Admiral Forrest was killed in "The Forge", Vaughn Armstrong returns in this episode as the mirror universe's Captain Forrest.
   
In Star Trek: First Contact, the location was noted by Will Riker as a Missile Complex in Central Montana. But the opening teaser for this Episode reveals the location as Bozeman, Montana.
   
The first dead human that Archer encounters on the Defiant is none other than a legendary "red shirt". It is original Star Trek lore that red shirts always seemed to die.
