This episode marks the change in the series' official title, as seen in the opening credits, from "Enterprise" to "Star Trek: Enterprise".

This episode is also like the Voyager episode: "Favorite Son"  where Harry Kim is transformed into an alien race, and is pulled to get back home, to mate.

The The Next Generation episode "Identity Crisis" dealt with a similar concept of crewmen being mutated into an alien life form with uncontrollable impulses due to a visit to a planet. Geordi (LeVar Burton) was the focus of that episode - Burton also directed this episode.

Jerry Fleck is a first assistant director who worked on many episodes of Enterprise (including this one) and died after filming.
