Episode Behind the Scenes

Original TrekToday rumor-mill article (08/21/2001): "This is the episode in which the crew encounter what they believe to be a friendly, uninhabited alien world, but that turns out to be far more dangerous than they ever expected. The crew members that visit the planet are infected by an alien pollen that induces hallucinations and paranoia.

This episode will again feature some of the tension between T'Pol and the rest of the crew, as she is suspected of being in secret contact with the hostile aliens on the planet. 'Strange New World' will also showcase the unreliability of the early transporters, as a crewman is beamed back with debris embedded in his body".

Original TrekToday rumor-mill article (08/07/2001): "In the next episode, the Enterprise crew will apparently encounter what they believe to be an uninhabited planet. But when they explore the planet, they encounter a hostile alien species - or so the crew believes.

According to the Universe, this episode will feature an example of the more primitive state of technology on Enterprise. When there is a major storm on the planet, it outright prevents a rescue team from landing, while in later series it would just have been necessary to recalibrate the inertial dampers. Moreover, when the transporters are used to beam a crewman off the planet in an emergency, the particle buffers are unable to detect the difference between the crewman and some debris in the stream. When the crewman materialises, he has chunks of rocks and leaves fused into his body."

TV Guide description: "The discovery of an Earthlike world proves irresistible to Trip, who persuades Archer to allow his survey team to camp on the planet's surface - unaware of a gathering storm. After relocating into nearby caves, members of the crew become convinced they are being watched."

Kellie Waymire previously appeared in Voyager's "Muse" as Lanya.
