This is one of the few episodes – if not the only episode – to contain the melody from the series' main title "Faith of the Heart" in the episode score.
	This is the first appearance of the Axanar, a species mentioned twice before on the original series (TOS: "Court Martial" [where Kirk was said to have been awarded with the Palm Leaf of Axanar] and "Whom Gods Destroy"). They would be seen only once more, in the form of a corpse in the second season episode "Dead Stop".
	This is the first Enterprise episode to feature EV suits. The costumes were created only for the series regulars and would be seen through the run of Enterprise.
	Hoshi names her pet alien slug "Sluggo".
	The alien vessel interior is dark with a nitrogen-methane atmosphere and a temperature of  minus twenty degrees.
	The presence of ladders indicated that the aliens are bipeds.
	15 dead crew men are found to be attached to a hydraulic machine that is flushing fluids from their bodies. More specifically, triglobulin.
	Triglobulin has medical applications but is also considered an aphrodisiac among some cultures. It is similar to human lymphatic fluid.

	Phlox notes that on Denobula (his homeworld), it is considered a waste of time to converse during meals.
	The Axanar are androgynous and live for 400 years.
