 DOCTOR PHLOX

NAME: Doctor Phlox
RACE: Denobulan
STATUS: Married with 3 wives
POST: Chief Medical Officer - Enterprise NX-01

While Phlox, a physician who hales from Denobula, is taking part in the Vulcan spawned Interspecies Medical Exchange he tends to a captured Klingon on Earth. In a whirlwind of events surrounding the injured Klingon Phlox finds himself accepting a medical position on Enterprise NX-01 that is hurriedly offered to him by Captain Jonathan Archer.

Phlox leaves behind three wives to step on board Enterprise. He brings with him his own lab full of experimental remedies. Some that the humans on board aren't at all sure of; try the droppings of the Altarian marsupial on for size. He also possesses great knowledge of human physiology and is intrigued by the prospect of seeing human interchange first hand. His heightened sense of smell makes him aware of things going on around him that the humans cannot sense. For instance the hormonal exchange that takes place between humans preparing to mate. Something he would enjoy seeing first hand; 'do you think they would let me watch?' was the question overheard asked of a fellow senior officer.

Dr. Phlox's medical lab contains a wealth of items in experimental stages, which he uses to create new remedies and cures for the humans on board, as well as the alien species they encounter. He takes great pride in being able to use his own creations and embraces the oddness of it. His bedside manner is one that few medical professionals with his capabilities posses. Phlox treats each of his patients with caring respect, sharing his diagnosis in clear understandable terms. On occasion Archer's dog Porthos and Hoshi's pet Slug have even been treated in this manner. Phlox's constant smile and odd sense of humor have the ability to place the patient as ease and are very welcome parts of his demeanor.

Dr. Phlox is a constant source of information regarding alien species due to his extensive studies and intergalactic travels. His enthusiasm for his profession is unmatched on Enterprise, though his eagerness to share his knowledge often brings him to the point of becoming long winded and boring.

Jonathan Archer's decision to bring Phlox aboard Enterprise may have been one made in haste out of desperation but he no doubt realizes now that this choice was a wise one.

Archer would be hard pressed to find someone more suited to the Enterprise mission than Dr. Phlox.
